Come one, come all to our 10th annual, family-friendly, Carb Day / Indy 500 celebration! This party started back in 2008 as a Carb Day cookout when approximately 25 attendees swung by after the race. This year, we’re expecting more than 200 guests and festivities will encompass the entire Indy 500 Weekend! Come and go as you please. It’s up to you whether you attend one event or the whole weekend.
THE STORY BEHIND THE ANNUAL COOKOUT
For us, the main event is really Carb Day on Friday, May 25. And as with anything surrounding the Indy 500, there’s an interesting history behind Carb Day!
Back in the day, when race cars actually had carburetors, Carb Day was the last chance to work on your race setup before the Indy 500. In the modern era, Carb Day includes an IndyCar practice, the Pit Stop Competition, a major concert (Train and Blues Traveler will perform this year), and last but not least the Freedom 100.
The Freedom 100 is a 100-mile race for the Indy Lights competitors (AAA league in support of Indy Car). It’s a 100-mile sprint race audition, as the competitors attempt to move up to the majors, and the action is furious. Mark Olson, Entegra’s President, recalls the intense action, “In 2008 the drivers were going four-wide through Turn 3, with the inside car dropping its wheels into the grass and the outside car all but brushing the wall. Unbelievable! It’s like watching Sweet 16 basketball compared to a prime-time regular season NBA game.”
Guests travel far and wide for this annual bash! We’ve had attendees fly in from as far as Rio de Janeiro when one year, Raul Boesel, the famous Indy 500 driver (and winner of the 1987 World Sportscar Championship and 24 Hours of Daytona winner in 1988), attended the party.
Of course, besides Carb Day on Friday, there is an optional golf outing on Saturday, and the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday.
